Scribing Sound. A talk by Dušan Barok
The alphabet, musical notation and frequency analysis are some of the means to notate sound. Whether it’s for speech, music or sound as such they are analytical devices operating between recording and reproduction of sound. In this short excursion, we shall focus on how these different notation systems emerged and changed the ways of how sound is perceived and experienced.
Dušan Barok is a writer and artist involved in the fields of software, art and theory. He is founding editor of Monoskop, a wiki for collaborative studies of art, media and the humanities, and a member of the collective La Société Anonyme.
